It’s clear from talking to him, that Dr. Pat Gordon ‘92 is a caring and compassionate physician. His earnest commitment to patient care shines through. Since Exeter, Pat always knew he wanted to be a doctor, and for the past 20+ years, his career has been marked by the central theme of mentorship — both as a trainee and leader of young doctors.
Becoming a doctor is hard, suffice it to say. It takes a minimum of 7 years to train (often many more) with a dedication and focus that not everyone can muster. According to Pat, young interns are worked to the bone and even the most idealistic young doctors grow tired and cynical at times. But Pat says he has been lucky to find places like Mount Auburn Hospital, a community hospital in Cambridge, MA where he found mentors that, “loved the cynicism out of me…”
As you’ll hear in our talk, Pat believes deeply in the power of mentorship. Inspired by Anne Rankin (Class of ‘92 and also a PEA instructor), he developed a summer internship program for Exonians at Mass General Brigham-Salem, where he works as Associate Chief Medical Officer and VP of Medical Affairs for Quality initiatives. The first Exonian starts in 2025.
